Philadelphia will host the 2018 Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) annual conference in November, it has been announced.
The location was revealed during the ITAA’s travel trade show in Dublin on Thursday (April 12).
The conference will give agents the chance to build relationships with travel professionals throughout Ireland and get a first-hand look at what Philly can offer Irish holidaymakers.
2018 is set to be a big year for Philly. The city will gain a new direct Aer Lingus service from Dublin, in addition to its established year-round American Airlines service, and a seasonal American Airlines service from Shannon.
There will be new hotels too, including a brand new Four Seasons at the city’s 60-storey Comcast Center and Starwood’s new dual-branded W and Element Hotels.
Pat Dawson, ITAA chief executive, said: “This will be the first time the ITAA conference has taken place outside of Europe and we expect the conference to sell out quickly.
“Philadelphia is an exciting and vibrant city, and the new direct service from Aer Lingus makes it even more accessible to Irish travellers.”
Greg Evans, UK and Ireland account director for the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, added: “This is a great accolade for the city and with direct services with American Airlines and Aer Lingus from Dublin and an additional American Airlines seasonal service from Shannon, the timing of hosting the event couldn’t come at a better time.
“It will be an excellent opportunity to showcase the city and surrounding areas to the Irish travel trade.”
