Qantas will re-start its London flights on 18 December following an 18-month hiatus.
The first flights from Sydney and Melbourne will leave for Heathrow on that day, the airline told Yahoo Finance. In addition, a Sydney-Los Angeles service will also recommence, as will other main trans-Pacific services.
The resumption will see the first Qantas flights to the UK since June 2020. The airline said earlier it would re-launch London services with Boeing 787s, stepping up to the larger Airbus A380 from November 2022.
Qantas has yet to confirm when it will resume its non-stop London-Perth service. Executive Traveller reports the carrier is hesitant because of Western Australia’s insistence on remaining closed until an 80% vaccination milestone is reached.
The carrier has said it will re-route the non-stop service to Darwin in the Northern Territory if Western Australia remains closed. Darwin has already been used by Qantas as an entry point for repatriation flights.
