Norwegian airline Wideroe is to start the first flights from Stansted airport to Kristiansand in southern Norway next year.
Kristiansand is Norway’s fifth-largest city and a gateway to a popular coastal area. The largest underwater restaurant in the world is set to open in 2019 about 30km to the west, while the surrounding rural area offers elk safaris, white water rafting and salmon fishing.
Stein Nilsen, Wideroe chief executive said the service was added “following extensive market research”.
“We believe that the new London Stansted to Kristiansand service will be a popular addition to our network map in 2018,” he said. Services will begin on August 13 2018.
Mats Sigurdson, Stansted’s aviation director, added: “This makes a beautiful region of Norway more accessible to British travellers.”
Flights will be operated by 78-seat Dash-8 Q400 aircraft with a 20:00 departure from Stansted on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.
