Released late on Tuesday (4 February) the fly-through video reveals what Terminal 2 will look like once works are completed, showcasing a newer and sleeker look as well as its state-of-the-art security scanners.
It also shows all the shops and amenities passengers will have at their disposal – including the airport’s first Wetherspoon pub and Chanel outlet.
The airport has used computer-generated imagery to show the parts still under construction, blending them with real-life pictures to give travellers a fuller experience.
“Our transformation programme has been 10 years and £1.3 billion in the making but now we’re in the final stages of finishing everything off to open it to the public later this year,” said managing director Chris Woodroofe.
The first part of Terminal 2 work focused on doubling the building’s size and was completed in 2021.
“That work isn’t just limited to Terminal 2 either,” Woodroofe added. “We’re modernising our airfield, building a new road to improve access to the new terminal – and we’ll soon be able to say more about some work we’re doing in Terminal 3 too.”
According to research published by aviation consultancy York Aviation, the new terminal will help Manchester airport increase its contribution to the northern economy by 80% to 6.3 billion by 2040.
“There’s a huge amount of work going on all over the airport but this video shows that it will all be worth it,” Woodroofe concluded.
