More than a third of respondents to a survey have advocated the use of armed police at UK beaches and tourist spots in the wake of recent terrorist attacks.

A new study undertaken by Travelzoo of 1,801 consumers on July 29, 2016, shows that more than a third would back the measure already taken up in parts of France as well as a Cannes-style ban on large bags being taken to the beach.

A further 90% said increased security measures undertaken on the Continent since the recent spate of attacks will not ruin their own trips.

Half of all respondents also said they would be prepared to pay at least 5% more for a tip if it meant extra security while a fifth said they would pay up to 10% or 15% more.
