This comes as many former Cook staff have been re-employed by Hays Travel and some have benefited from the expansion of Barrhead Travel. 

“It’s great news that on a weekly basis our members who worked for Thomas Cook are starting new jobs,” said Manuel Cortes, TSSA’s general secretary.

“Our union will soon launch a dedicated website for travel trade retail staff so that even more of them can join our TSSA family.

“However, we can’t let the government off the hook for the collapse of this iconic brand.

“Ministers said Thomas Cook failed because it was ’a dinosaur in a digital age’. Make no mistake, this was pure spin to try to absolve themselves of responsibility for their inaction.”

He stressed the union is still pressing for another inquiry into the collapse, which he described as “the economics of the madhouse”. 

TSSA’s new website is currently in the design stage.
