The website for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (Esta) for travellers to the US is to undergo a redesign to improve functionality.
The new Esta website for the Visa Waiver Program launches in October, with new functionality that allows travellers to return to an existing application.
The changes were revealed by John Connors, deputy attache at the Brussels Customs and Border Protection (CBP), who was speaking at Brand USA Travel Week in London yesterday.
Connors also revealed that almost 22 million passengers and crew travelling to the US went through preclearance at 16 preclearance locations in six countries last year.
Negotiations are under way to add another 21 locations, including some in Europe as well as others in the Caribbean, South America and Asia, Connors added.
Visitors can now enrol in Global Entry, CBP’s flagship Trusted Traveler Program, on arrival at 51 US airports.
More than 8.5 million travellers have joined the programme so far.
