The airline will change working practices from next month, which it said “will improve roster predictability and the quality of work-life balance for the crew”.
It added: “The new fixed roster patterns, which might differ based on location, will be introduced around the Wizz Air’s bases over the next six months. Pilots choosing to remain with their current flexible roster pattern will be offered compensation based on their rank.”
The carrier faced criticism from its own staff this summer after allegedly pressuring crews to work on rest days, with Wizz Air chief executive Jozsef Varadi urging staff to "take the extra mile".
Last summer, it was revealed Varadi had negotiated a £100 million share bonus if he more than doubles the airline’s share price from £48 to £120 in the next five years. Wizz Air’s share price has since fallen to around £21.
Roland Tischner, Wizz Air operations officer, said: “I am excited to offer our crew the option to choose a fixed roster pattern. We welcome current and future employees to choose their schedule based on their own individual preferences.”
