After a 35-year career that has taken him across four continents and more than 25 countries, TUI retail agent Gary Cook says there is one destination he recommends time and time again to customers looking for sunshine, value and unforgettable holidays: Turkey.
Now helping customers plan their getaways at TUI's Colchester store, Gary first fell in love with the country when he worked in Marmaris more than 30 years ago. Since then, he has returned 17 times and believes Turkey offers one of the most complete holiday experiences available to British travellers.
"I've worked everywhere, but I keep coming back to Turkey – particularly the Antalya region and Marmaris on the Turquoise Coast," said Gary. "It's got everything you might want from a holiday – stunning beaches, incredible history, amazing food and fantastic all-inclusive resorts where you can truly switch off and relax."
Just four hours from the UK, Turkey offers a holiday season stretching from April to October, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C. Whether travellers are looking for family fun, adults-only relaxation or cultural exploration, Gary believes there is something for every type of holidaymaker.
While Antalya is famous for its long stretches of golden sand and luxury resorts, Marmaris offers a different atmosphere. Set around a spectacular bay, the resort combines a lively waterfront lined with bars and restaurants, a cosmopolitan marina and a traditional old town filled with markets and bazaars.
Visitors can spend their days exploring the coastline on boat trips, enjoying local cuisine overlooking the harbour or strolling the seafront promenade towards neighbouring Icmeler.
The destination's appeal goes far beyond its beaches. Gary recommends visitors discover Ephesus, one of the world's best-preserved ancient cities or Pamukkale, known for its white terraces, thermal springs and unique landscapes.
"Turkey offers something for every budget," said Gary. "You've got beautiful beaches, fantastic food, rich culture and plenty to see and do. For a summer holiday, it really is hard to beat.
