Issues with the overhead wires powering international rail services between the UK, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, coupled with a broken down LeShuttle service, brought the network to a standstill on Tuesday.
Eurostar has said it is hopeful of running all scheduled services on new year's eve. However, the first departure of the day (6.01am) from London St Pancras International station on Wednesday (31 December) was cancelled. Subsequent services have departed or are scheduled to depart.
However, it is now reporting delays in both directions – on services departing the UK and those heading to the UK. Passengers seeking to travel by car with LeShuttle, meanwhile, have been warned of 30-minute delays departing Folkestone and three-hour delays departing Calais.
Passengers departing Folkestone were initially warned of one-hour delays and those departing Calais six-hour delays, so progress has been made restoring normal operation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday morning, Eurostar said: "Services have resumed today [Wednesday] following a power issue in the Channel Tunnel yesterday and some further issues with rail infrastructure overnight.
"We plan to run all of our services today, however due to knock-on impacts there may still be some delays and possible last-minute cancellations. Please check for live updates on the status of your train on the Train status and timetables page."
LeShuttle said: "Following a power supply issue that caused disruption to our service, we have now resolved the problem and are working to get all customers on their way as quickly as possible. We apologise for the delays and thank customers for their patience."
LeShuttle operator Getlink confirmed: "The power supply incident in the Channel Tunnel has now been resolved overnight. Rail service has resumed in both directions."
As of 8.40am, the 6.31am London-Paris Eurostar service was showing a delay of around 40 minutes. Subsequent services appear to be running to schedule. There are delays of around 30 to 40 minutes on Paris-London services.
