Maverick was born in Turkey in September to Adam, who is British, and his wife Eda, who is Turkish. The family live in Istanbul and Maverick holds a British passport, Corin told TTG.
It emerged when Maverick was just a few weeks old that he had problems with his heart, and in just the past few days, his parents were given the devastating news his only option now is an urgent heart transplant.
Update: Hospital agrees to accept baby Maverick after industry plea
Corin explained that there are no infant donors in Turkey, so the family are desperately trying to get Maverick to the UK for the procedure. He said that while the embassy in Turkey can help with an emergency medical passport, securing a hospital place in the UK is proving a challenge.
On Wednesday (21 January), Corin posted an update on his Facebook page explaining there are only two hospitals in the UK that can provide the life-saving treatment Maverick needs – Newcastle's Freeman Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
However, he said both of these hospitals have advised Maverick should first go to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, near to where Corin still has a home, to be stabilised before he is moved to one of the others – both of which, Corin says, have agreed to take him.
Corin says the family is having difficulty securing Maverick’s transfer to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, adding he and his family have savings they can use to fund the air ambulance transfer. “Me and Mav are UK citizens, my company is based in the UK, I pay UK tax and national insurance and still own a house near Bristol,” Corin said in his post.
“My MP, Andrew George, and his team have been nothing but amazing and working all hours – Andrew even hand delivered Maverick’s reports to [UK health secretary] Wes Streeting's office.”
He continued: “Mav has a 0% chance in Turkey, but every chance in the UK… we will be flying back ASAP… this is our only option. He only has a few days to live, and each day we can see he is getting worse.”
Corin is asking industry colleagues to help spread the word about Maverick’s plight by contacting their MPs or the NHS.
TTG has contacted Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for comment.
