The France-based company, which owns brands such as Sofitel, Novotel, Ibis, Fairmont and Raffles, made an operating profit of €53 million last year, compared with a loss of €2.2 billion in 2020, as revenue increased by 36% year-on-year to €2.2 billion in 2021.
Sebastien Bazin, chief executive of Accor, said: “Despite a disrupted start of the year due to overall health restrictions, 2021 showed significant improvement in our business, as of the spring, with trends picking-up month after month right up to December.
“As the desire to escape and to resume travelling has never been stronger, we are well under way to make the most of this rebound in all our markets.
“In 2022, we will continue to unfold our vision of ever more experience-driven and sustainable tourism, facilitated by digital technologies.”
Accor added that it would continue to grow in the luxury and upscale markets in the next few years, with around 40% of its planned new properties in these high-end segments.
