It is the latest in a spate of recent attacks in the country.
This time the target appears to be military personal but the BBC reported that some of the victims were civilians.
“The Turkish authorities are investigating. British nationals are advised to stay away from the area and to follow the instructions of local authorities,” the Foreign Office said.
In January 10 people, most of whom were German tourists, were killed by a suspected Isis suicide bomber in Istanbul.
This followed a double suicide bombing in October, which killed more than a hundred people at a Kurdish peace rally in Ankara.
