Carnival’s P&O ship, MV Adonia, will sail to Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba from May 1 after a deal with ground operators was sealed.
It comes as President Obama visits the island, the first US president to set foot on Cuba since 1928. Obama’s visit heralds a thawing of relations between the US and the communist regime in Cuba.
Carnival is thought to have sealed the deal because it operates the 704-passenger Adonia under its Fathom brand, which includes an educational element. Special onboard programming will include Cuba’s history, customs and culture, plus conversational Spanish lessons.
Seven-day itineraries will depart from Miami on Sundays at 4:30 pm.
The ship will arrive at its first destination, Havana the following morning at 11 am.
Prices for seven-day itineraries start at $1,800 per person, excluding Cuban visas, taxes, fees and port expenses and all meals on the ship, onboard experiences and some on-the ground activities.
