A travel seller arrested on suspicion of fraud after police received a number of complaints about discounted holidays has been bailed.
The 37-year-old woman from County Durham was arrested last Wednesday (9 September) by detectives from Durham’s economic crime unit.
Officers are speaking to several “potential victims”, and believe the woman’s client list extends “into the hundreds”.
The woman’s social media presence has been removed, and she has been released on bail with conditions.
“Police have arrested a woman in connection with an independent travel business in County Durham offering discounted holidays after complaints from members of the public,” said Durham Constabulary.
“The 37-year-old was arrested on Wednesday evening on suspicion of fraud by detectives from Durham Constabulary’s economic crime unit.
“Several customers have contacted Durham Constabulary and officers are in the process of gathering all the relevant information from them.”
A Durham Constabulary spokesperson added: “We are in the early stages of what is likely to be a complex and lengthy investigation and we are currently speaking to several potential victims. It is thought the number of customers runs into the hundreds.”
Anyone who believes they may be a victim have been asked to email the force. Officers are contacting those who have submitted reports to obtain further details.
