The operator is offering no quibble cancellation until the date of travel plus a £1,000 voucher per booking to be used on future purchases.

ETG said the guarantee enabled would-be travellers to book in confidence and removed any insurance cover issues relating to Covid-19.

Sam Clark, co-founder and managing director of Experience Travel Group, said: “We are running this while the insurance market is not working.” 

He said travel insurance companies were not providing cover should clients need to cancel plans if they contract coronavirus or are prevented from boarding flights for a Covid-19 related health issue.

ETG added: “This scheme will also benefit travel agents as they can offer assurances to clients booking a long-haul trip with ETG under the Covid-19 Promise.”

ETG will also pay agents’ commission even if the holiday is cancelled because of Covid-19 related issues. Other benefits the operator is offering include flexible low deposits, plus destination, date and name changes up to one month before travel. 

Clark added: "We have worked with agents to ensure it works for them and enables them to provide their clients with absolute peace of mind when it comes to booking their holiday.

"The travel industry needs to begin rebuilding confidence. We are confident our ‘no quibble’ Covid-19 Promise will deliver for everyone," he said.

ETG’s guarantee comes as one of its key markets, Sri Lanka, revealed plans to reopen to small group tourism from 1 August. Visitors will be required to provide a Covid-free certificate or test result before travelling. 

Visitors will also have to submit to temperature checks and additional rapid testing on arrival.
