The four accolades will be given out during the Top 50 ceremony, held in association with Visit Malta, in Manchester on 24 April – with the recipient of the Contribution to Travel, sponsored by Iberostar, also revealed on the night.
Finalists for Customer Service Champion, sponsored by Hurtigruten, include a store manager who helped rebuild her neurodiverse client’s confidence in flying after a distressing experience at airport security, a homeworker who raced to get his client home from San Francisco before his mother passed away and an agent who supported customers with insurance tribulations after one was hospitalised in Ecuador.
On the shortlist in the Tui Community Hero category are agency teams raising money for a host of good causes – including for vital surgery for a team member’s daughter – and a Ukrainian OTA owner helping her compatriots in the UK to enjoy much-needed breaks and offering careers advice and support to her community.
Finalists for Intrepid Sustainable Travel Champion include an agent supporting his consortium with its own sustainability strategy, an agency working group sharing ideas across their company to enhance team training and an agent who helped advise on how to make her company’s new shop more environmentally friendly.
Shortlisted team members for The Visit Malta Unsung Hero Award include a HR manager who has “transformed” her agency with a number of important staff policies, an administration executive described by her homeworkers as “the backbone” of the company and an "irreplaceable" high street agency team member often found dealing with queries and challenges late at night and on days off.
