I’ve long held the belief that love in any form is something to be celebrated. In a world that is having to work ever harder to find ways to unify and seek common ground, it seems celebrating love and promoting acceptance in any shape or form is more important than ever.
So as we celebrate Pride for the 50th time this month, I’m excited by the significant inroads being made, particularly creative and clever brand campaigns like Coutts’ #bankwithpride and Skittles’ Give the Rainbow, that are devised to make public their support for Pride and all it stands for.
This growing support from mainstream media, blue chip brands and broader communities around the world is incredible to see.
While this has been a progressive movement for more than 50 years, the early supporters and ambassadors deserve to be celebrated alongside the early adopters and trailblazers in their own personal commitments and support for this incredible movement.
To me, it appears we have reached a tipping point and we can only look forward with optimism to another 50 years of Pride and the progress that has been made.
From a Celebrity Cruises perspective, we’ve certainly seen an increase in agents requesting LGBTQ+ specific trips and we’ve been delighted to support this fully. Statistics show 82% of LGBTQ+ travellers are interested in holidays involving culture, history and heritage – proving they are just as popular as beach holidays with the LGBTQ+ market.
Creating the perfect trip is something that should be at the forefront for any agent or travel company, regardless of gender, creed, sexuality or colour. Ensuring the trip meets the demand of the customer is something that should remain a top priority.
This year, Celebrity Cruises will host its third annual Pride Party at Sea in honour of Pride month. Each ship will participate in “30 days of Pride”, with US Olympic skater Adam Rippon hosting the flagship party on Celebrity Edge.
Along with our guests onboard, we invite our crew fleet-wide to join in the festivities too.
The cruise sector has repeatedly set an example to other areas of the travel industry when it comes to working together. We know we are better all-round when we work together to get more people to choose a cruise holiday.
So with Pride month upon us, I will be flying the flag to drive awareness of not only LGBTQ+ communities but anyone who wants to celebrate their significant others and love universally. Wishing you all a happy Pride month.
