Long, who stepped down as Tui’s joint chief executive earlier this week, will join Countrywide’s board immediately and will take over as non-executive chairman from Grenville Turner following the company’s annual general meeting on April 27.
He is already chairman of Royal Mail and is a member of Tui’s supervisory board.
Countrywide chief executive Alison Platt said: “I am pleased that Peter has accepted the role of chairman and would like to welcome him to Countrywide. I and the entire board look forward to working with him as Countrywide pursue its strategic objectives."
