The Travel Trust Association has reported an increase in enquiries from potential new members throughout April.
The TTA said the 60 enquiries from potential new members had increased by 50% compared with the same time last year.
Gary Lewis, chief executive of The Travel Network Group, which incorporates the TTA said: "We are humbled by the high number of enquiries coming through, and we believe that the main reason behind these is the ongoing conversation around trust accounts and the future of financial protection for the travel industry."
TTNG believes the financial protection model, which uses individual trust accounts for individual members overseen by trustees, rather than a central trust account, poses fewer inherent risks.
Lewis added: "The TTA model is the first and leading trust account model that offers 100% financial protection to consumers, and we feel that the whole industry will have to reflect on how customer money is used, irrespective of a final decision from the government around the Package Travel Regulations."
