A survey by the market research specialist cited financial concerns as “a key barrier” to foreign travel – with 49% of consumers who were not planning to travel overseas choosing it as their main deterrent.
This figure was compared to 23% who said they still had concerns about Covid-19 and 18% who blamed “too much hassle or inconvenience” as their reason not to go overseas, while 15% raised concerns about delays at airports and ports.
When asked about their travel plans for the next 12 months, almost two-thirds (63%) of Brits said they were unlikely to go abroad outside of Europe, while 47% answered the same for travelling within Europe.
The research, surveying 1,024 UK adults between the ages of 16 and 75, was carried out between 18-19 May.
Looking back over the year so far, 39% of consumers polled had taken a break somewhere in the UK where they stayed at least one night, while a quarter had chosen a staycation (26%).
Only 17% had been on holiday to Europe and only 8% had been away to a destination beyond Europe.
Nearly a third (31%) had been on none of these types of holiday so far this year.
