Washington DC is the cheapest US city for a three-night break, new research has found.
Compiled by Post Office Travel Money in conjunction with Brand USA, the data showed the cost of three nights’, three-star accommodation, return flights and various tourist ancillaries such as museum entry and drinks was £1,757.80.
New York was in second place at a cost of £1,767.10 before jumping to £1,832.21 for the same break in Philadelphia taken before the election on November 8.
Miami and Las Vegas were the other two to make the top five, followed by San Francisco, Boston, New Orleans, Austin and Chicago.
Andrew Brown, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: “Flight prices can transform the overall cost of a US city break so these need to be factored in before choosing where to visit for a pre-election trip.
“The same applies to hotel accommodation, which can vary by hundreds of pounds. It will be better for UK holidaymakers if they do their homework before booking to calculate the full cost of a US break.
“They shouldn’t forget to factor in the cost of meals, drinks, transport and sightseeing to ensure they change enough pounds into dollars to cover their trip without having to incur transaction charges when they reach their destination.”
