Why Virgin Atlantic is turning to sustainable fuels

Virgin Atlantic has flown the first commercial flight using recycled waste gases - a landmark step for the aviation industry.

Flight VS16 from Orlando to Gatwick took off on Tuesday afternoon, fuelled by a potentially revolutionary biofuel made up in part of recycled waste industrial gasses.

LanzaTech has been working with Virgin Atlantic since 2011 to develop the new fuel, which could have wide-reaching implications for aviation.

So how is the sustainable fuel made? TTG visited the LanzaTech plant in Georgia, US to find out...
