Cultural Attractions of Australia is a collection of the nation’s most iconic attractions that celebrates the diverse history, art, culture and sport that has defined Australia’s identity.

The collective and its members are committed to sustainability and honouring the First Nations people. The stories behind these attractions encompass elements of past, present and future sustainability, showcasing historical, sporting and cultural achievements.

In Fremantle Prison, for example, the history of First Nations people is being preserved by recording and communicating their story at the prison and on the land, prior to English settlement. Visitors can view a collection of items left behind by prisoners or uncovered in archaeological projects, alongside highly valued prisoner art on a Fremantle Prison Art Tour.

In Sydney, Bangarra Dance Theatre’s contemporary First Nations dancers have drawn on 65,000 years of culture in performances that preserve Australia’s Indigenous cultures through theatre, music and movement, as well as stories inspired by the customs and Songlines of Elders.

A special Cultural Attractions of Australia Behind The Scenes at Bangarra Dance Theatre experience begins with a personal Acknowledgement of Country and Smoking Ceremony before Artistic Director Frances Rings take guests on a behind-the-scenes tour.

The Sydney Opera House itself has been built on Tubowgule, Gadigal Country, and today supports the 2007 United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), meanwhile, was built just 15 years after Melbourne was established in 1853 and today is classed as being among the world’s most sustainable sporting arenas. The MCG’s setting is established on meeting grounds of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin nation, and First Nations culture is celebrated through a Reconciliation Action Plan.

While the MCG aims to develop sustainability focused tours at the stadium, visitors can go behind-the-scenes on a number of Cultural Attractions of Australia’s guided premium all-access tours, as well as taking in the Australian Sports Museum.

Cultural Attractions of Australia (CAOA) provides a single point of contact for travel trade. The curated experiences offered through the collective are pre-bookable and fully commissionable to trade. CAOA has a dedicated trade website where rates and images can be accessed by registering.
