Aer Lingus told staff in November it was weighing up the "long-term viability" of its Manchester base, where it said "long-haul operating margin performance continues to significantly lag behind that of Aer Lingus's Irish long-haul operating margin".
It has entered into collective consultation with union representatives, and Aer Lingus at the time confirmed options on the table "include the possibility of a base closure". The carrier on Thursday (8 January) said it was "undergoing a period of uncertainty on transatlantic services" at its Manchester base.
"To minimise customer disruption in the event of a closure of the Manchester base, which operates transatlantic flights from Manchester to New York, Orlando and Barbados, Aer Lingus is no longer selling transatlantic flights to/from Manchester for travel from 31 March 2026."
A statement from the carrier added that there would be no impact on Aer Lingus or Aer Lingus Regional services between Manchester and Ireland.
