The challenge, which took place from 13-20 April, saw participants hike a section of the famed Catholic pilgrimage route across northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela cathedral, with the funds split equally between Planeterra and Abta LifeLine.
The total raised is more than 50% higher than last year’s challenge and takes cumulative fundraising from G Trek for Good to more than £187,000 since the initiative launched in 2019.
Participants, including TTG Media CEO Daniel Pearce, carried their own kit across varied terrain over seven days, with this year’s challenge marking the fifth edition of the fundraising trek. Brian Young, G Adventures managing director EMEA, said the Camino delivered both a physical challenge and a shared sense of purpose.
"The Camino de Santiago is a must-do trek for many hikers around the world, but taking it on with our travel industry colleagues, all united by a shared goal, made this year’s G Trek for Good incredibly special," he said.
"It challenged us physically and mentally, but the camaraderie and determination shown by everyone involved was inspiring. Raising more than £40,000 is an incredible achievement and a testament to the generosity and commitment of the UK travel trade."
Young added the funds would support community tourism projects globally through Planeterra while providing vital support to travel colleagues in need through Abta LifeLine.
The Camino follows previous G Trek for Good expeditions to Colombia’s Lost City, Morocco’s Mount Toubkal, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro and Peru’s Choquequirao. Trudie Clements, director at Abta LifeLine, said the trek had delivered both financially and emotionally for the causes involved.
"It has been a privilege to spend seven unforgettable days trekking alongside an extraordinary group of people, all united by a shared purpose: raising funds for Planeterra and Abta LifeLine – and together, we delivered," she said.
"The funds raised will make a meaningful and lasting difference to people’s lives. Our sincere thanks go to G Adventures for their continued support of LifeLine, and to the trekkers – now pilgrims – whose generosity of time, energy and passion made this journey so impactful."
Plans are already under way for G Trek for Good 2027, with the next destination due to be revealed later this year. Industry members can register interest through G Adventures.
