Ten members of the agency’s team walked from Royston to Cambridge, setting off at 9am and arriving five hours later. The nod to the company’s heritage as a local bus operator came as it marks nine decades in business this year.
The walk forms the first stage of a wider challenge to complete 90 miles over the course of the year, culminating in the London Bridges Walk on 23 May. The initiative will raise funds for the Veronica Claxton Memorial Fund in support of Young Lives vs Cancer.
Several supplier partners joined the walk, including representatives from Jet2holidays and Typically Holidays, with support provided by Gold Medal en route.
The day ended with a partner thank-you event in Cambridge bringing together suppliers and branch managers for an afternoon of networking with food, drinks and informal activities, plus the presentation of locally-sourced hampers reflecting the company’s East Anglian roots.
Paul Waters, director of Premier Travel Group, said the business was keen to celebrate the milestone in a way that "reflects our heritage, our people and our partnerships".
"Walking one of our original routes was incredibly special, and having our supplier partners alongside us made it even more meaningful," he said. "This is just the beginning of our 90-mile challenge, and we’re proud to be supporting such an important cause along the way."
Further training walks are planned in the run-up to the May event in London, which will see participants cover around 24 miles en route from Richmond Bridge to Tower Bridge, crossing 20 of the capital’s bridges.
Premier Travel is asking the industry to get behind its year of fundraising efforts, and has opened a JustGiving page where people can contribute and find out more.
