The group opened Aman Tokyo in December 2014, but said Amanemu will be its first hot spring resort.
Amanemu is inspired by classic ryokan design and to celebrate Japan’s "onsen" tradition of bathing in mineral hot springs, each of its 24 suites and four villas will have its own private onsen facility. The Aman Spa will also have two further onsen bathing pavilions.
“Following on from the opening of Aman Tokyo and continuing the Aman journey in Japan, we intend to create a true Aman experience that will provide guests with the best of Japan’s natural beauty and ’omotenashi’, the special spirit of hospitality," said Aman chief executive Olivier Jolivet.
Accessed via Japan’s high-speed rail network, Shima is 187 miles from Tokyo and will be the venue for the G7 meeting of global leaders in 2016. Amanemu is on Ago Bay, which is famous for pearl farming, and is close to Ise-Jingu, Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrine.
Aman now includes 30 hotels worldwide and the group is set to open a resort in the Dominican Republic by the end of this year.
