Lanzarote was beset by heavy Storm Oliver rains at the weekend, which flooded roads and left some hotels without power. A state of emergency was declared after some areas experienced 6cm rainfall in just a few hours.
The main areas affected were on Lanzarote’s east coast, namely Costa Teguise, San Bartolome and Arrecife. The Foreign Office issued an alert at the weekend, and updated its travel advice for Spain again on Monday (14 April).
"Heavy rainfall and flooding in Lanzarote occurred over the weekend," said the FCDO. "Journeys may be affected. If you are in Lanzarote or travelling to Lanzarote, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local weather updates."
A Tui spokesperson said: "Due to the lack of alternative accommodation on the island during the busy easter period we unfortunately had to cancel a small number of holidays to Lanzarote. Customers were able to receive a full-refund or amend to another Tui holiday with a re-booking incentive.
"As always, the safety of our customers and colleagues is our main priority therefore Tui resort teams are working with the local authorities to find customers currently in impacted hotels alternative accommodation or return flights back to the UK."
A Jet2holidays spokesperson said: "Due to the severe weather conditions that have affected parts of Lanzarote, a small number of hotels have contacted us to let us know that they are temporarily unable to accept arrivals due to the impact of the adverse conditions.
"As always, we have been making decisions with the best interests of our customers in mind, and we have contacted affected customers to let them know their options. Our flights programme is continuing to operate as normal."
TTG also approached easyJet holidays for comment.
