The addition of the two airliners is part of the airline’s plan to serve 270 short-haul routes in the 2022 peak season.
Under the leasing deal, Norwegian will keep the aircraft for this winter and next under a “power by the hour” contract, meaning it will only pay lease charges when they are actually in use.
Deals like this are a sign how the pandemic has affected the aircraft leasing market.
“The flexibility of ‘power by the hour’ will allow us to manage our capacity through the low season adjusting for variations in seasonal demand,” said Geir Karlsen, Norwegian chief executive.
The lease term for each aircraft is for nine years.
