Situated in one of Shanghai's "historic landmark properties", the Tui Blue Yangtze Shanghai will open on 1 June featuring 103 rooms, extending Tui's expansion into Greater China.
Tui said the new hotel will preserve the building's architectural heritage while introducing Tui Blue's contemporary concept, offering curated lifestyle experiences, elevating dining concepts and premium service standards tailored to international and domestic visitors.
"The signing of Tui Blue Yangtze Shanghai marks another important step in Tui Hotels and Resorts’ expansion in Greater China, particularly within key gateway cities where heritage, culture and international connectivity converge," said Tui.
Artur Gerber, chief executive of Tui Hotels and Resorts, said: “It is an honour to be entrusted with operating this historic landmark hotel in one of the world’s most dynamic gateway cities.
The signing of Tui Blue Yangtze Shanghai represents a significant step forward in our strategic expansion in China. With its prime location near People’s Square and its distinctive heritage character, Tui Blue Yangtze Shanghai is set to become a flagship urban property within the brand’s Asia portfolio."
'Rising demand for Tui hotel brands in Asia'
The signing forms part of Tui's plans to speed up its expansion into the Asian market, where it is aiming to have more than 50 hotels in "unique holiday destinations".
Tui Hotels and Resorts currently operates more than 460 hotels worldwide across 12 brands, with more than another 70 in the pipeline.
In China and southeast Asia, which it characterises as "a key pillar" of its growth strategy, Tui operates 25 hotels under its own brands, with more than another 30 in planning. This includes its first Tui Blue hotel in Japan – a year-round mountain resort in Hokkaido.
It is also opening its second own-brand hotel in Cambodia, which will be situated near the country's historic Angkor Wat temple complex.
"Rising demand from international guests for Tui hotel brands is a major driver of future development in the region," Tui added.
Elsewhere, Tui has opened bookings for a new Robinson property in Boa Vista, Cape Verde. It is also planning a new resort for its Magic Life club brand in Morocco's Agadir, further projects in Zanzibar, and to bring its Tui Blue brand to Gambia.
