Four Seasons makes debut in Greece with hotel on Athenian Riviera

Slated as representing “an exciting new chapter for a global brand”, the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens has opened as the first hotel in Greece for the luxury hotelier.

Could this be the year's summer hotspot? Four Seasons launches its new resort on the Athenian Riviera

An update on the original Astir Palace Hotel, the property sits in 74 acres of seaside landscape on “the Athenian Riviera”, 30 minutes from the city centre, and comes with a helipad and three private beaches, which are connected via a 300-metre boardwalk.

With 300 rooms, the hotel has 700 “handpicked and highly trained” staff, said general manager Sam Ioannidis.

“So many of our people are locals or native-born Greeks returning to their homeland from around the world, or people who have deep roots in this culture and finally have the opportunity to live and work here,” Ioannidis said. “This heritage makes us even more excited to share it all with our guests.”

Also on site are three pools, five tennis courts, watersports options and a basketball court, as well as a complimentary Kids for All Seasons programme.

The hotel also boasts an in-house collection of close to 2,000 works by mainly contemporary Greek artists, and is collaborating with the Benaki Museum to host an on-site museum shop.

Guests will eventually be able to choose from eight dining concepts, such as trattoria-style Italian specialty option Mercato and the sophisticated seafood dining experience of Pelagos; while Greek beachside restaurant Taverna 37 and Latin American grill Helios will open at a later date.

There’s also easy access to other marquee restaurants on the Astir Peninsula, such as Nobu’s Matsuhisa Athens.

It’s great to see this huge project come to life, and to see a flagship international luxury brand such as Four Seasons show confidence in Greece, a destination that is shaping up to have a great summer ahead.

Accommodation is in two buildings including Arion, which features more modernist architecture and “retro-chic design”.

It's also home to four of the resort's restaurants and lounges, along with the indoor pool and The Spa at Four Seasons, which includes a hydrotherapy zone inspired by ancient Greek wellness traditions.

The other building is Nafsika, where some of the suites include private pools, along with two other restaurants, a fitness centre and high-end boutiques, as well as the social hub of Avra Lounge and Terrace.

Another accommodation option is that of The Bungalows, which were originally built in the early 1960s, but have been brought up-to-date as part of the project.

The hotel’s “grand opening offer” features a 20% saving on the room rate with daily breakfast and is valid for the whole year, while the Stay Longer – Sixth Night Free package includes a complimentary night when a five-night stay is booked.

Four Seasons currently operates 112 hotels and resorts in 48 countries and has more than 50 projects in the pipeline.

Other current European projects include a hotel in Madrid, which will be the first for the brand in Spain and is part of Galeria Canalejas, a new large-scale luxury dining and shopping development.
