The brand will operate and manage The Surrey, which was acquired by Reuben Brothers in 2020 and is now undergoing an extensive transformation.

The project will complete “early 2023”, when The Surrey, a Corinthia Hotel will reopen with 97 guest rooms, including 33 suites and five signature suites, along with 12 residences.

Martin Brudnizki will oversee the design work at the hotel, which will also include an outpost of Casa Tua, the famed private members’ club and restaurant curated by Miky Grendene.

The project is Corinthia’s second collaboration with Reuben Brothers, the global private investment firm founded by British billionaires David and Simon Reuben. The firm is currently involved in a number of global hotel projects, including Oetker Collection’s Hotel La Palma, Capri opening in April 2022.

“Having a presence in the United States has been a goal for Corinthia for many years, especially in New York, a city that we consider one of the most vibrant and exciting places in the world,” said Simon Naudi, chief executive, Corinthia. “We look forward to working closely with the Reuben Brothers to restore The Surrey to its former glory in time for its 100th anniversary.”

Located on East 76th Street and Madison Avenue, very close to Central Park, The Surrey dates back to 1926.

“Since our recent acquisition of the property, we have been looking for the right partner who shares both our passion and our vision of reinvigorating one of New York City’s most famous hotels,” said the company’s Jamie Reuben. “We trust the Corinthia brand – who we have also partnered with on another notable project in Rome – to deliver a current and innovative hotel proposition with an uplifting guest experience, while rejuvenating the properties to their former, historic grandeur.”

Other Corinthia developments underway include hotels in Brussels, Bucharest, Moscow, Dubai and Doha.
