A British tourist has been impaled by a beach umbrella on a US beach after strong winds caused it to fly towards her.
The freak accident occurred on the US east coast in Ocean County, New Jersey, with both police and fire crews called to the scene.
Local newspaper reports said the umbrella pierced her right ankle and was completely driven through due to the force of the wind.
The local police chief told the Asbury Park Press that a bolt cutter had to be used to cut through the aluminium umbrella to free her.
The woman who is from London was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
There is no update on her condition, Sky News said.
