Emirates is to operate both its daily Birmingham flights on an Airbus A380 this winter after cutting frequency from three a day to two.
The carrier currently operates three daily flights from the Midlands airport to Dubai, but will axe one of the frequencies on September 1.
Currently, one departure is on an A380 and another on a smaller Boeing 777. From October 29, the airline’s EK39/40 departures will switch from a smaller Boeing 777 to the 615-seat double decker.
The airline began using the A380 to Birmingham in March last year. The new flight will be operated by a two-class high density version, with 557 economy seats and 58 in business class.
Emirates has been flying from Birmingham since late 2000 and has carried an estimated 5.2 million passengers from the airport.
Flight EK39 departs Dubai at 07:25hrs and arrives in Birmingham at 11:25hrs. The outbound flight, EK40, departs Birmingham at 13:30hrs and arrives in Dubai at 00:35hrs the following day.
