A travel industry veteran is calling on the sector to dig deep, as he walks around Wales in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Ian Vilarelle, training and sales development manager at The Holiday Place, is hoping to raise funds and awareness for the charity as he takes on the Welsh 1000 -a walk which will see more than a thousand people combine to walk a distance of 1,057 miles.
Vilarelle, who has spent 23 years working in the industry, will be one of 1,000 participants, divided into 72 groups, who will each take on a section – almost 20 miles of the mountainous Brecon Beacons, setting off on April 16.
Explaining his reasons for undertaking the feat, Vilarelle said: “The primary reason for getting involved in this event personally is that I’ve had first-hand experience of how tough it is for families to watch their loved ones gradually fade away with this condition, the everyday challenges faced and the helplessness experienced by everyone close to the person, it’s extremely difficult.
“I would be incredibly grateful if you would kindly donate whatever you can spare to this wonderful cause.”
