A group of specialist UK tour operators have agreed to work together to help Sri Lanka’s tourism industry recover from the Easter Sunday bombing attacks.
The Aito members, including Experience Travel Group, Travel Gallery, Bamboo Travel and Selective Travel, who all specialise in travel to Sri Lanka, are looking at ways to help the country’s tourism industry in the coming months.
Sam Clark, co-founder of Experience Travel Group, who is acting as a spokesperson for the group, said: “As a collective, we are very fortunate that none of our clients in Sri Lanka were directly affected by last Sunday’s atrocities.
“Naturally, our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to all those injured and to the families and friends of the victims.”
Clark added the group’s primary aim was “to provide safe and comfortable travel arrangements for all clients currently in Sri Lanka and for those with plans to visit the island in the future”.
“I am glad to say that several groups have travelled to Sri Lanka since the incidents of last Sunday. We are in touch with them – both via our guides and directly – and understand they feel safe and are happy to be on the island,” he said.
The group said it hoped to announce plans for how to help Sri Lanka “in the near future”.
“We undertake to continue doing everything we can to support our colleagues and friends, as well as the wider travel and tourism sector in Sri Lanka, in the days, weeks and months ahead,” said Clark.
