TTG’s #SaveTravel letter demanding sector specific support from government is nearing 2,500 signatures less than a week after being launched.
Please help keep the momentum going by encouraging your colleagues, friends and family to sign the letter, addressed to transport secretary Grant Shapps and chancellor Rishi Sunak, and spreading awareness of the campaign.
Barrhead Travel president Jacqueline Dobson was among the latest industry figures to add their backing to the #SaveTravel cause.
“I support TTG’s #SaveTravel campaign because we are one of the largest travel agencies in the UK employing staff in England, Scotland and Ireland [and] since March, we have had no income however still have all the costs to bear salaries, rent, technology costs, credit card charges the list is endless,” said Dobson.
“This is one of the most rewarding industries and we must save as many jobs as we possible we need more assistance from the UK and devolved governments.”
Also stressing the value of the industry was Just a Drop founder Fiona Jeffery.
“Travel and tourism needs recognition that it’s an industry that carries value,” she said. “It is one of the industries worst hit [by Covid-19] and needs supporting to help protect jobs and a future."
Pledging her support, Sheena Whittle, head of The Personal Travel Agents at Co-operative Travel, said: “The industry is on its knees. We understand tough decisions need making, but they need making in collaboration, and with the knowledge of, the impact upon the outbound tourism industry.”
TTG is calling on agents to take up a five-point action plan to help get behind the campaign - from downloading our #SaveTravel window poster and display it in your shop, to urging customers to sign the letter online at www.savetravel.co.uk.
You can also contact your local MP to tell them the plight our industry faces if we do not get specific government support. Contact details for MPs can be found here.
