Sri Lanka is experiencing a period of economic and political turmoil, which has triggered food and fuel shortages forcing the resignation of prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The country declared a public emergency in early April before the FCDO issued its advisory on 13 May. Tui had previously cancelled all Sri Lanka trips departing through to the end of May.
However, on Tuesday (24 May), it extended these cancellations to all holidays departing up to, and on, 12 June citing "ongoing political and economic instability".
"We will be proactively contacting all impacted customers in departure date order to discuss their options," said Tui.
The FCDO isn’t advising against transit through Colombo’s international airport, Bandaranaike, and Tui has made clear the advice doesn’t apply to transit passengers.
"Customers currently in resort can continue to enjoy their holiday as planned," added Tui. "We will continue to monitor the situation and update customers should there be any further updates."
