Birmingham airport has been boosted by the return of British Airways after a three-year absence with a new service to Belfast this winter.
The BA flights from Birmingham to Belfast City will operate twice daily five days per week, as well as three times on both Thursday and Friday.
The flights will be operated using an Embraer 190 with 98 seats and the route will run between 31 October 2021 and 26 March 2022.
Birmingham will also benefit from a new service by Lufthansa-owned Eurowings to Stockholm starting from late March 2022.
Tom Screen, aviation director of Birmingham airport, said: “It is great to welcome back British Airways to Birmingham after three years absence. We know that the tailfin will be a welcome sight to many of Birmingham’s customers.
“This route ensures even more choice for travel to Belfast from Birmingham and with plans to grow the schedule adds to the flexibility of travel.”
British Airways is also extending three new domestic routes from Belfast to Exeter, Glasgow and Leeds Bradford through the winter season.
Tom Stoddart, managing director of BA CityFlyer, which operates the routes, said: “This year has shown how much customers want to stay connected with the rest of the UK.
“We’re responding to the customer demand we saw over the last few months by extending some of our newest UK routes from Belfast City airport.”
The airline is also adding two routes to the Austrian gateway of Salzburg from London City and Southampton airports starting in December 2021.
BA’s London City service to Salzburg will operate twice per week on Friday and Saturday from 10 December, while the Southampton service will operate on Saturday from 11 December.
