Travellers to Ibiza may have to provide a certificate to show they are not infected with the Covid-19 virus before they arrive.
Vicent Mari, president of Ibiza’s Island Council, said the requirement for holidaymakers to show they were not infected by the coronavirus would be “elemental” in helping the Balearic island to reopen safely to tourists.
Mari told local news outlets in Ibiza that the Spanish government should insist visitors carry a Covid-19 free certificate when they arrive on the island.
Under current plans, Spain intends to reopen the country to tourists on 1 July after more than three months of being closed to tourists, which saw it become one of the worst affected countries in Europe.
The number of new Covid-19 cases across Spain has now dropped to around 500 per day – the kind of infection levels last seen in March before lockdown measures were put in place.
