The free Woman Flyer service is being offered by New Delhi-based carrier Vistara, which also ensures that all solo female customers receive only a window or aisle seat assigned at check-in, according to reports in the Telegraph.
Upon arrival at outbound airports and their final destinations, female travellers are reportedly greeted by employees holding placards reading “#VistaraWomanFlyer Arrivals Assistance”, to help them with their luggage, as well as booking authorised taxis. They will even escort female travellers to the taxi stand if requested.
The idea for the new service, which is reportedly used by around 75 to 100 women a day, came after the airline noticed female travellers seeking assistance once they had landed at the airport, said Sanjiv Kapoor, chief strategy and commercial officer at Vistara.
Kapoor told Bloomberg: “This service is a sincere effort to ensure peace of mind of our women customers.”
The carrier also hopes to provide the service on its international flights in the future, once the airline expands its operations beyond India, the Telegraph said.
The UK Foreign Office currently advises female tourists to use caution when travelling in India.
