Norwegian has extended its partnership with its backend technology partner Amadeus and launched operations in Argentina.
The airline says it has experienced a 110% increase in long-haul bookings from Amadeus sellers since its 2015 partnership agreement.
On Thursday (July 19), Norwegian revealed it had signed a new distribution agreement ensuring Amadeus sellers have continued access to its fares.
In return, Norwegian will continue to benefit from Amadeus platforms, such as its eticketing services, passenger service system (PSS) and customer experience management resources.
Norwegian also announced on Thursday the launch of its latest subsidiary, Norwegian Air Argentina - a new carrier it says has regulatory approval for more than 150 routes.
Lars Sande, Norwegian senior vice president sales and distribution, said the move strengthened the airline’s “low cost long haul” growth strategy.
“As a growing global airline, it is vital to keep costs low and offer affordable fares,” said Sande. “This way we can increase the number of passengers and add the direct routes that travellers want.
“It’s always difficult to enter a new market... our partnership with Amadeus has given us the technology, connections and insight we needed to grow our business.
“Travel sellers are a key channel for us representing 20% of all our bookings. We are delighted to have renewed and expanded our relationship with Amadeus as we pursue continued growth.”
Norwegian said the PSS gave agents real-time access to flight information and seat availability, and tools to assist customers throughout their journey.
Manuel Midon, Amadeus head of airlines northern and western Europe, added: “We are very pleased to support Norwegian’s low cost long haul growth strategy.
“We have been working hand in hand with the airline to help enable its expansion through innovative distribution and IT solutions.
“This technology has been supported by unique insights from our extensive travel agency network, allowing Norwegian to adapt its strategy to local market conditions.”
