Princess Cruises has added extra sailings offering passengers the opportunity to aid local communities in hurricane-affected areas of the Caribbean.
The additional sailings are in partnership with Carnival Corporation’s “volunteerism” initiative, Fathom Travel.
The first “sell-out” voyage on Crown Princess sailed from Fort Lauderdale on January 20 before two additional seven-day journeys were scheduled for Regal Princess, departing March 18 and Caribbean Princess, departing May 26.
Highlights of the inaugural eight-day Crown Princess sailing, which featured calls at Antigua, St Maarten, St Thomas and the Dominican Republic, included optional activities such as rebuilding, beach clean-ups, reforestation and therapy through arts.
Tara Russell, Fathom president, said: “Now more than ever, our friends in the Caribbean need us to show up to support kids and families as they return to school and build normalcy in their daily lives.”
While in St Thomas, the Princess/Fathom group were scheduled to make a donation drop of 2,000 items for young families working with the St Thomas Department of Health.
Meanwhile on St Maarten, passengers focused on lending a hand in efforts deemed necessary by the tourism association, including helping at the St Maarten Nature Foundation and the National Institute of Arts.
