Le Coin de Val will cost £170 million and sees the addition of 900 beds to the resort through the creation of two new hotels and a pair of new tourist residences.
It will also encompass the building of 100 new private homes, shops, services, and restaurants and is set to cover 22,000sqm.
An underground moving walkway, which will connect with the main mountain access lifts, is being created as part of the project and will enable guests to ski back to their accommodation, Val d’Isere said.
Val d’Isere added that the five-year development will “reshape the heart” of the destination by the time it is completed in 2020.
The resort added that “unlike other French resorts” its visitor numbers had “steadily increased” since the UK’s vote to leave the EU in June, in spite of a slump in the value of sterling against the euro.
Local architect Jean-Charles Covarel designed the development with the environment in mind.
Its new buildings will incorporate smart systems designed to limit energy consumption.
Rainwater and melted snow will run the sanitation system and geothermal energy will heat the hotel rooms and apartments, while its exterior will be made from traditional stone, slate and wood.
The go-ahead for Le Coin de Val follows the resort’s recent redevelopment of its Solaise ski area with a new high-speed gondola, surface lifts, beginner area, and an American-style mid-mountain day lodge.
