Princess Cruises is to get a second ship as part of a new order from parent company Carnival Corp with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.
The cruise giant announced at the end of last year that it had an agreement in place for four new ships – two for Costa Asia, one each for P&O Cruises Australia and Princess Cruises – and an extra one for Princess has now been added.
The two new Princess ships will enter service between 2019 and 2020.
Carnival has an existing fleet of around 100 ships, with 16 new ships scheduled for delivery between 2016 and 2020.
“We are incredibly proud and excited to add two new ships to our already formidable fleet,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.
“With this new ship commitment Princess Cruises will continue to grow and expand globally as the world’s destination leader in premium cruising.”
The unnamed 143,700-ton, 3,560-guest ships will be the brand’s fourth and fifth Royal-class vessels, following Royal Princess, Regal Princess and the new Majestic Princess coming in 2017.
The contract for the five ships was signed last week in Italy.
