A major airport in Java has been closed due to the threat of ash spewed from a nearby volcano.
Indonesian authorities have ordered people living near to the island’s Mount Merapi to leave their homes after the peak sent a column of steam and rock into the sky on Friday.
In 2010, a series of eruptions from Mount Merapi killed more than 350 people.
A disaster mitigation agency told residents living within a 5km radius of the mountain to move to shelters, Reuters reports.
An official said that 120 people who had been hiking up the volcano were safe.
The airport in Yogyakarta, the nearest large city to the volcano, closed because of the threat to aircraft from the ash, the state-owned aviation agency AirNav said in a statement.
The alert status on Merapi had not be raised, it added.
