Liverpool airport is claiming a UK first by introducing a £175 Covid test for returning passengers, enabling them to reduce time spent in quarantine.
The facility also offers the PCR test to departing passengers, providing them with a certificate “within one to three hours”.
The Randox Test Facility at the airport is self-contained and can process up to 1,000 tests daily. It has been added to the list of approved Test to Release providers by the government.
Cliff Kirby, director of Test Assurance Group (TAG), a partner in the venture, said: “It is fantastic news to see Randox join the private providers list for test and release.
“At a time when there is so much uncertainty, being able to offer people arriving in the UK the facility to reduce their self-isolation from 10 days to five days subject to a Covid negative result is great news.
“We are delighted that Randox have chosen to strengthen their bonds with the Liverpool City Region by situating their first mobile testing facility with us at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. This is the only one of its kind deployed in the UK right now.”
The airport’s commercial director Lucy O’Shaughnessy added: “Being able to offer our passengers the facility to reduce the self-isolation period from 10 days to five days in line with government guidelines is great news.”
