The cash from Tui’s Apprenticeship Levy will go towards helping NHS trusts, charities and businesses create training opportunities in sectors facing workforce challenges.
Funds have so far supported apprenticeships in health and social care, childcare, wildlife management, engineering, paramedic training and dentistry.
More than £100,000 has so far been pledged to NHS England to fund 13 healthcare apprenticeships in the south-east, including dental nurses, dental practice managers, oral health practitioners, pharmacy technicians and children’s services practitioners.
South Western Ambulance Service, meanwhile, has received funding for five paramedic apprentices, plugging gaps in frontline emergency care resource.
Elsewhere, the funding has allowed care home charity The Turner Home to put staff through level 3 and level 5 adult care qualifications to improve resident care while allowing the organisation to direct charitable funds to other ends.
Away from health and social care, the cash has allowed water treatment supplier Fluid Science – a commercial enterprise – to expand its marketing department and provide career-change opportunities.
Marsha Myles, Tui’s emerging talent and apprenticeship manager, said the funding was "making a real difference" in communities across the UK. "We’re not only helping to unlock opportunities for individuals who might otherwise be left behind but also strengthening the wider workforce and economy," she said.
"It’s a powerful way to ensure every pound of the levy works harder in building skills, driving social mobility, and creating a more inclusive future for all. Tui is a proud supporter of emerging talent, with around 3.5% of our workforce made up of apprentices and graduates with our target to support 5%."
