Viking Cruises has taken delivery of its sixth ocean ship, Viking Jupiter.
Jupiter was handed over to Viking this week at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona.
It will be the first to sail Viking’s new Journey to Antiquities Athens-Rome itinerary, starting February 16.
During its maiden season, Jupiter will sail through the Mediterranean and Scandinavia.
It will be officially named in Oslo on June 6 by godmother Norwegian soprano Sissel Kyrkjebo.
“It is always a proud moment when we are able to welcome a new ship to our fleet,” said Viking chairman Torstein Hagen.
“Viking Jupiter is our sixth ocean vessel in just four years – a clear sign of the positive response to our approach to ocean cruising.
“We are different because we focus on the destination, and that resonates with our guests.
"We are pleased that, with continued growth, we have the opportunity to introduce even more travellers to the Viking way of exploration.”
Jupiter bears a gross tonnage of 47,800. It can accommodate 930 guests across its 465 staterooms.
The line has 10 additional seafaring ships scheduled for delivery starting 2021, with its ocean fleet set to grow to 16 ships by 2027.
